It’s been a while since I last posted on my blog. The past few months have been incredibly busy with work, and I’ve also been focused on finishing the draft of my second book. I am thrilled to share that, with the dust settling at work, my book is finally complete, giving me more time to connect with all of you through this blog.
In my recent conversations with readers about my first book, “How God Interacts with the Physical World,” I have been uplifted by the positive feedback I’ve received. Yet, I’ve observed that many still interpret the book of Genesis literally and hesitate to explore alternative interpretations. This observation has encouraged me to think deeply about why some Christians wrestle with the integration of faith and science, often appearing skeptical of the remarkable evidence science offers on topics ranging from evolution to climate change.
A common perspective that arises is biblical literalism. Many view the Bible as the living word of God, believing that every word holds divine inspiration and should be taken literally, unless clearly understood as allegorical or symbolic. My wife often asks about my work, and sometimes I find it challenging to explain the complexities without oversimplifying. Yet, the story of Genesis is not meant to be a scientific manual; even with advanced scientific knowledge, the origins of life remain a mystery. How can we expect the author of Genesis to convey scientific precision in a way that reaches everyone’s understanding?
The first chapter of Genesis serves a greater purpose than chronicling events; prior to Adam and Eve, there were no witnesses to creation itself. The heart of the creation narrative in Genesis is the affirmation that God is the source of all life, and humanity holds a unique and inspiring role in the divine plan. Instead of getting caught up in scientific intricacies, Christians are called to reflect on the profound spiritual messages within this narrative and what it teaches us about our wonderful place in the universe.
As followers of Christ, we are firm believers in the miraculous resurrection. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and His triumphant return to life inspire hope and strength. Following His resurrection, He appeared to many, with countless witnesses bearing testimony to this incredible event. Of course, the idea of rising from the dead invites skepticism from a scientific viewpoint. Throughout history, our faith has sometimes drawn ridicule, yet we embrace it boldly, knowing that true faith can coexist with curiosity and understanding, even when scientific discoveries challenge our beliefs.
Jesus instructed us to be present in the world while not being of it. Yet, many Christians focus only on the latter, often overlooking the importance of actively engaging with the world. Some may see secular knowledge as opposing faith, leading to unwarranted skepticism of scientific exploration. However, there is so much to learn and appreciate in both realms when we approach each with an open and discerning heart.
Jesus also taught us to be wise yet innocent, navigating a world filled with false motives that might seek to mislead us. We must be vigilant as we cultivate our faith, ensuring we hold onto the purity of our beliefs while encouraging ourselves and others to explore and think critically.
When sharing the gospel, we ask our friends to keep an open mind, exploring the evidence for God’s existence and historical accounts of Jesus. Yet, it is crucial for us as Christians to approach scientific theories, such as evolution, with the same inquisitiveness and open-mindedness. Why not embrace the invitation to examine the wonders of science while deepening our faith? Together, let’s journey forward in faith and knowledge, recognizing the beauty in both paths.
